In 1583, it became the last stronghold of Portuguese resistance against the Iberian Union.
\nIn the 17th century, the routes from Brazil arrived, along with the international export of Fayal wine and merchants from England, France, and various other nations.<\/p>\n

In the 18th century, orange exports began, and the first American whalers arrived.<\/p>\n

In the 19th century, the “Battle of Fayal” changed the history of the United States, and a significant portion of the liberal struggles was organized here.<\/p>\n

Over time, steamships arrived, the first yachts appeared, and even seaplanes landed in Horta Bay \u2013 a true haven for all who visit us, leaving their roots eternally intertwined with the history of this city and this bay. A maritime city par excellence, whether in leisure, sports, or even science.<\/p>\n
